It was originally
planned to be released as a commercial expansion pack to the popular FPS Return to Castle Wolfenstein and later as a
standalone game. However, due to problems with the single-player aspect, the multiplayer portion was released on May 29,
2003 as a freeware standalone game. The game uses a modified RTCW engine, itself being a modified Quake III: Team Arena
engine.
_________________________/ GAMEPLAY \_________________________ Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is an online multi-player game, where the players interact with each other over a network in
two teams (Allies and Axis) to defend or destroy mission objectives.
On each map, the offense needs to complete a certain set of objectives within a limited amount of time. The defense needs to
keep the offense from completing objectives until time runs out. Some objectives may be optional, and some objectives can be
carried out by either team. These minor objectives assist the team completing them.

- Innovative and widely different game modes including "Campaign", "Objective", "Stopwatch" & "Last Man Standing"
- The game includes several types of vehicles (usually tanks, trucks, or trains). They are not player-controlled; rather,
- they have a preset path which they will follow when they are in good repair and a friendly player is nearby. Some have
- mounted machine-guns which players may use.
- Players start off as a either Private (Allies) or Schütze (Axis).
- Earn experience points in several skill categories! All character classes may - earn points in Battle Sense and Light
- Weapons. Class skills are generally restricted to the current class, the exception being Heavy Weapons (the Soldier class
- skill).
- Players have certain abilities based on their character class. The player has a Power Bar that provides 'power' for their
- special abilities.
- Players have up to eight weapon slots, depending on character class.
- There are 5 classes to chose from:
__________Soldier
Code: |
The soldier is the only class that can use heavy weapons. They are: mortar, portable machine gun (MG42), flamethrower, and bazooka/Panzerfaust. Leveling up gives the Soldier benefits such as the ability to run with heavy weapons (instead of being slowed down). |
__________Medic
Code: |
The medic has the unique ability to drop health packs, as well as revive fallen players with a syringe. They also regenerate health at a constant rate, and have a higher base health than any other class, which makes them the most common class for close-in combat. When a player has achieved skill level 4 in medic, they get Self Adrenaline which enables them to sprint without draining the sprint meter and take less damage for a certain amount of time. |
__________Engineer
Code: |
The engineer is the only class which comes equipped with pliers, which can be used to repair vehicles, to arm/defuse (dynamite or land mines), or to construct (command posts, machine-gun nests, and barriers). As most missions require some amount of construction and/or blowing up of the enemy's construction to win the objective, and as defusing dynamite can be very useful, engineers are often invaluable, and one of the most commonly chosen classes. The engineer is also the only class capable of using rifle muzzle grenades. |
__________Field ops
Code: |
The field ops is a support class which has the ability to drop ammo packs for other players, as well as call air strikes (by throwing a colored smoke-grenade at the target) and artillery strikes (by looking through the binoculars and choosing where they want the artillery support fired). This class has low initial health, but makes up for having an unlimited supply of ammunition. |
__________Covert ops
Code: |
The covert ops is the only class which can use the scoped FG42 automatic rifle, the silenced Sten submachine gun, and a silenced, scoped rifle (M1 Garand for Allies, K43 Mauser for Axis). The covert ops has the ability to wear a fallen enemy soldier's clothes to go about disguised, throw smoke-grenades to reduce visibility temporarily, and place and remotely detonate explosive satchels. By looking through a pair of binoculars, the covert ops can spot enemy landmines, bringing them up on their team-map. The covert ops also shows enemy soldiers on the team-map. |

______________/ CONCERNING WIDESCREEN RESOLUTION \______________ Please keep in mind that the game is aging, and that you won't be able to change the game ratio so that you will be able to
choose widescreen resolutions from within the game interface menus. However do not despair as the Q3 engine which the
game is based upon is fully capable of handling widescreen resolutions, but at the time this game was introduced to the world
there weren't a need for the option of selecting ratios other than 4:3, so naturally they never implemented a simplified way to
do so.
This means that in order to have a custom widescreen resolution, you will have to configure the game resolution manually, and
following are the instructions in order to do so:
1. Start the game and create a profile. This way the game generates a folder in which it places your personal settings and
configurations.
2. Exit the game and locate the installation folder. Normally, the default location would be "x:\Program Files\Enemy Territory"
where "x" represent the drive letter where you have your Windows installed. If you found the folder, scroll down to step 3.
However, if you still can't locate where you installed the game, keep reading downwards.
2a. There is a simpler (for someone) way to locate the folder. After installation, most likely it should've generated some
shortcuts for you in the Windows Start Menu. Click your way into the Start Menu and locate the folder that says "Wolfenstein -
Enemy Territory". Click it. Inside there are several shortcuts. Right click the one that says "Enemy Territory" and select
"Properties". When a window pops up, locate the button that says "Open File Location", and presto - the explorer will pop up
and open the install folder.
3. Next, open the folder inside the installation folder that says "etmain", and further on into the "profiles" folder. If you created
the profile correctly as instructed in step 1, then a folder with your name on it should be inside it. Open the folder.
4. This is the base of operations. Any changes made to the files within this folder will affect the game. However, to do what we
want to do, we need to edit the file that reads "etconfig.cfg" on it. Either you are familliar with editing similar files, you will need
to choose "notepad" or "wordpad" or similar programs to edit with. To assign a program to open it with you either simply
doubleclick the file, so that a window pops up and asks you to choose what program to run the file with, or you right click it and
choose "Open With...". Once inside the windows with a list of programs, you should be able to find "notepad" or preferably
"wordpad" in it. Select and open.
5. Alright, the last step before testrun. Once inside the editor, you'll need to hit and hold the "ctrl" key while hitting the "F" key.
A search window will pop up. First off, search for
You should then encounter a phrase in the config file that says something like the following:
Code: |
seta r_mode "x" unsafe |
where "x" represents a number. You need to edit it so that it will become this:
That's right, it's not a typo; the "unsafe" is removed. Next you will have to locate the actual resolution part. And to do so, if you
haven't clicked the search window away, search for
A phrase should appear, and most likely will the phrase for height be closeby as well. Anywho, the phrase you searched for most
likely said something like this:
Code: |
seta r_customwidth "640" |
So naturally this is where you insert the HIGHEST amount of the desired resolution, while the height is normally the LOWEST
amount. For example:
Code: |
seta r_customwidth "1920" seta r_customheight "1200" |
...aaand that's a wrap! If you're familiar with the term FOV, meaning Field of View, one would want to configure that as well to
achieve the most desirable result. If you wish to alter the FOV as well, keep reading downards. If not, scroll straight to step 6.
5a. Hit the search bar once more, and search for the following:
Once again, the phrase pops up, and it should going like this:
The number represents degrees. Keep that in mind when messing around in here. Personally, I think 115 is just about enough.
Anything above becomes an unpleasant experience. Therefore I advice you to keep the amount between 90-115.
6. Make sure you save the configuration file as you click the editor away. If done correctly, you may now enjoy Wolfenstein:
Enemy Territory in widescreen resolution.
Enjoy!
